          Hello Todd,

very nice sidecap, thanks for adding to this thread!the stamp on the left is the manufacture stamp, it was made/finished november 1939 (1139) the 55 is the size ,the RADBAB stamp stands for Bekleidungs Amt Berlin - Clothing Equipment Depot Berlin, the RAD distribution were your sidecap came from,it either got there or was distributed (not 100% sure about that) on may 1940 (540 stamp)

Thanks Yancy for the translation of the markings! I wish I had more RAD headgear to post. Do you have a thread on RAD unit shoulder spades?

                        Hi Yancy,

After noticing a short thread on another forum that raised a question about RAD M43 caps with 1942 dates in them and ended without a definitive resolution, I decided to do a bit of research in my RAD library to see what I could find, especially since I have a cap with the same stamp.

"Jahrgang 24", a propaganda style RAD publication with lots of photos, addresses the Arbeitsdienst and its activities in the year 1942. Although the publication year is 1943, the sub-title clearly shows that the material for the book was gathered in 1942. And within its pages I found a photo of Arbeitsmänner wearing what are without doubt M43 billed caps with double buttons on the flap! Another suprize and challenge to conventional wisdom!!!!!!

Photos of the date stamping and the sewn-in identification tag in my M43 cap are followed by scans of the relevant pages from "Jahrgang 24". Hope to get some comments on the results of my research!

                        Bill B.
