    6. traced around helmet, added green with a tiny amount of red.

    7. Desaturated decal.

    8. Put red with some yellow in decal, traced around helmet strap, added red and some yellow. The helmet and face are done for now.

The next thing I would do would be to put color in the collar tabs and any piping on shoulder tabs (in this case red for artillery) but I have left this out to save time.

I then added alittle contrast, went to "Selective Color Tool" and added some cyan. I would normally treak the photo and play around with the color etc until I was totally happy with the result. Once again I have not done this to save time.

The end result! This took me one hour to colorize.

Hope you have enjoyed this thread.

        Cheers Larry

Congratulations dmytro, they are the best colorized pictures that I've seen.
BTW, who are the Knight's cross holders? I only recognize Leo Geyr von Schweppenburg

Hi thanks for the compliments, I generally only deal with portraits at the moment but am trying other general scenes with a bit more challenge. Uniforms and decorations have become quite easy, I am now concentrating on the facial colourising to achieve a natural look rarther than just a "Pink" Wash.

I actually use Photoshop V4, now that is an old programme (Windows 95) but brilliant at this sort of thing. Unfortunately V4 and Windows XP don't like each other and my programme crashes frequently so I have to save at every stage, however with a bit of patience all works out well in the end

Very good job, faces are the most difficult part of the colorization. I'm starting to colorize some pictures, here you have an example:

                          Air Chief Marshal Hugh Dowding

I'm afraid I'm venturing on a sidetrack now. However, because of the skilled 'Photoshoppers' in this thread, I'd like to know what can be done against the noise in this picture. Reducing noise will only affect sharpness. So leave it be then? Looking forward to your reply(ies)
