This is a great idea for a thread !

I find these atmospheric and visually interesting. Taken from an album of Polizei-Bataillon 106, in Wawel courtyard :

German soldiers march in formation of fours carrying the 430-year-old flags, which the German Order of Knights lost in the battle of Tannenberg July 15, 1410, against a
twice as large Slav force. The flags had been hanging in the Wawel Castle in Cracow, Poland, since then and are returned now to the Hall of Pillars in the Master's building of Marienburg Castle located 20 kms
south of Hanover, Germany, in a festive ceremony, May 19, 1940. (Associated Press)

I have been able to ID the flags with an X after the name

Not sure if this is right for the thread. I find it captivating so hopefuly it fits the bill.

Originally thought this was a firing squad but discussed it on Axis and was told it could also be a staging area showing people being held before transport to somewhere else. I'll let you decide. This is Croatian Home guard 'Domobrani' & the civilians are believed either Serb or Roma.

                  Hi,

link to the Axis topic :

                  https://forum.axishistory.com/viewto...3256&p=2018927

After seeing (too) many pictures of "Aktionen" in the East, it doesn't look very good for the male prisoners.
I will suggest that the use of bayonets and the number of soldiers may prove that the unit is not "used to" guard prisoners, it was not the prelude to an execution afterall.

                  See You

Soldiers lined up on opposite sides do not suggest an intelligent firing squad arrangement either.

                      SS Polizei after the fight.

Is from a big photo lot

Unfortunately I do not get it really clear. There are nice details like the camo helmet cover

from Lt Col. George Forty color photo book.

Reich Vet Day June 4th 1939, looks like a scene from a movie.
