I have a general question about award documents to Einsatzgruppen members, such as for War Merit Crosses.
Did these award documents typically make reference to the Einsatzgruppe to which the recipient belonged?
I ask because in my understanding the Einsatzgruppen were "ad hoc" formations and members would have more formally belonged to units of other organizations (e.g. Waffen SS, SD, Orpo, etc.). Therefore I was considering the possibility that the documents would have referenced membership in these units rather than the Einsatzgruppen.
If anyone has images of such award documents that they could post for reference and clarification on this point, it would be much appreciated.
