Is it safe to assume that if a Knights Cross was awarded before the end of 1942 the recipient or his family would have been sent the parchment and leather mappe?
I am no expert on this subject, but there are many examples of this formal award being issued thru December 1942 and at least one example I have seen in January 1943.
