Hi Jeff ! That's correct ! I waited several Years to get the Stuff of my Grand'pa which was a french Poilu from 1916 to 18... One day, during a Family Meeting, I prepared a document about his military Life.... My Work was appreciated and I get it... And this success for Heinz is a good compensation for all the Stuff I saw..... and never get.... Be just patient, and it will come !

Holy smokes!!! What a grouping. Looks like the only things really missing are uniform pieces. And it's reassuring to know that for now, it's in a good collector's hands.

Thanks Guys ! Now the - very short and without feelings - from the Feld-Lazarett 268 wehre Heinz died, to the Family. I have said to myself that I will research about the exact place where Heinz's Tank was hit, probably not far from WIASMA. But I'm missing of good Documentation about the 5th.Pz.Div. A regimental Story of the Pz.Rgt.31 would be perfect, I don't know if it was ever published ? Somebody knows ??

Hank... you're right, an early "Panzer-Barett" or black Fieldmuetze would have been a nice addition for my Headgear Collection.... but not this time

Few days after his Death on the eastern Front, the Unit received the german Cross Award for Heinz.... The Regimental Commander Gustav Freiherr von Bodenhausen make the Things with more "heart". First he gave the Cross itself to one officer leaving not too far from Heinz's adress at that time, and asked him to give it in Person to the unfortunate Parents. And he send them the Award Doc with a personal Letter.... The Cross was then the last Souvenir from their Fallen Son...
Note that G.frhr.v.Bodenhausen received also the Cross on this Day, April 14th 1942....

Probably Months later.... the Family received the formal Award Document.... This was for me the very best from the Group, to get the document in his original registered letter... It permits to see that the formal Award was sent more than ONE YEAR LATER (Postal Stamp : 7 mai 1943 !!!). The original cover has his whole content : the Award doc. itself, a piece of thick cardboard to protect it, and a "letter" or, "note" to say thaht this Award is too big to be forwarded to the Awardee at the front, and that must be kept home... Of course, all the administrative Machine did ignore that the Awardee was resting in the russian Soil for over one Year. The Cover, cardboard and award have been slightly damaged (transport or bad manipulation at Home ??).

This is the second time, after all this Years, that I got the Formal Award in it's original Cover, a real "+" for me, really hard to get like this.

1, he is a fighting man, got so many awards fast from the start of the war!
2, he collected all his documents, so he is well filed and easy to research.
3, i get to know the DK formal document was sent with cardboards for protection!
Can we imagine what the feelings were when his parents received the DK formal document as his son had been dead near 1 year ! the document comes, the son never come! it made his parent pains again !
