He could be a Luftwaffe signals Gefreiter wearing an Army tunic or an Army signals Gefreiter wearing a Luftwaffe Bergmütze with Edelweiss. Shoulder boards look to be yellow piped IMHO. Perhaps a forward air controller who trained with the Luftwaffe.

I have some portraits of Luftwaffe personnel wearing LW Bergmützen with Edelweiss. But this is a first for me.

A member of Grenadier Brigade 503 possibly, formerly known as LW Feld regiment 503, it served throughout its history with the XIX Gebirgs Korps on the Murmansk front then North Norway until the end of the war.
