Last muster?

How far down have the once proud and smart Wehrmacht sunk? A one-eyed soldier, armed with either Polish or Czech captured weapons and looking much the worse for wear. Several have the very late-war greatcoat with a massive collar and all of their uniform, boots and kit looks shoddy, although the coats look newly issued. Is this a view of one of the last musters towards the war's end?

Bottom of the barrel time in Germany. In the late 50's I had a teacher in the Minneapolis school system who had been in one of those "last ditch" units. He told me he was lucky to have been captured by the US Army at the end because they were to be sent to the Berlin fighting but because of the lack of transport did not. Tom
