I love this picture. I can just imagine the laffs they are having while drinking a few beers and forgeting about the war. Notice his polka dot scarve. I have seen these worn in pictures before by Luftwaffe units but I can't find any info on them Any ideas?

Regarding the scarf question in your post above...flyers always tended to use silk scarfs. It stopped neck-chafing because pilots (and other aircrew) are constantly turning their heads searching for enemy a/c. During WW2 the scarf also became a symbol of pilots (especially by the Battle of Britain pilots) who wore the gaudy blue or purple with silver polka-dots. As it developed each unit adopted their own squadron colours.
By the way guys, those are very nice band photos. I have always liked the uniforms of band members.
