    Cigarette Cards Question

I will be going to a flea market this weekend and a seller there has some 50 German WWII cigarette cards in color in relatively good condition. Are these heavily faked, and what price do they usually fetch so I don't pay too much.
    They depict vehicles, soldiers, etc...

    Thanks,

    -Shane

Personally, I haven't seen many repro examples of German cigarette cards.

With the exception of the cards from volume 5 of the Sturm published SA, SS, And HJ Uniform album, I can't immediately think of repro cards.

The Sturm cards were reprinted by Tony Oliver some years ago.

        Hello Shane,

I don't think that the Oliver cards were meant to defraud collectors. My memory is a bit fuzzy, but I seem to recall that Tony Oliver's name appears on the reverse side of each card.

Are you interested in any particular album?

Yes - - the Oliver uniform reprints are excatly that - - reprints - - not meant to deceive. If my memory is right they were published in 1971. The full set is readily available here in England for £10.

He also did a set of medals in the early 1960's - - - this is well worth having - - - the earliest fake medals and badges are copied from these pictures. This set is much harder to find and will cost at least £25.

          Hope this helps.

            Hi DanCz,

but keep in my mind that the full set isn´t that full at all - to my knowledge it only has 50 pics. The original Sturm album (SA-SS-HJ) has 240 pics.

            Shane and Ramon,

Concerning the cigarette cards I wouldn´t spend that much money on them. I assume that they came with the album "Die Deutsche Wehrmacht".
50 cards of these aren´t even worth 5 USD
I can offer the whole album in mint condition for USD 70.
I totally agree with Ramon - ciagrette cards are not being faked yet - just too much of them on the market.

            Cheers,

Thanks for that - - - I did not know that the full set had 240 cards - - - Oliver did just 50. I learn something new everyday - - thank you.

The value of these albums will vary widely. The aforementioned Sturm Uniform, volume 5 is offered regularly from 500 Euros on up.

The Die Wehrmacht album is rather common and is to be had usually for approx the 50 to 80 USD range.

There are many albums not often seen that will easily fetch, on the average, more than 100-150 each. A very few will bring in the 1000 Euro plus range such as the Zeppelin, vol. 3 pictured below.
