Kriegsmarine Award Docs. Hipper u. Lützow

Here is a two award document grouping to a guy that served on board both "Admiral Hipper" and "Lützow". The first document is for the EKII.

The award was issued to Franz Hertenstein of the Command Cruiser "Admiral Hipper". It looks like someone had penciled over the swastika on the EK facsimile, then it was erased away at a later date revealing the swastika again.

The award was made on June 14, 1940 while at sea. The document is signed by Wilhelm Marshall as Admiral and Fleet Chief. The eagle ink stamp is that of the Kriegsmarine Flottenkommando. The swastika on the eagle ink stamp has been eradicated. Only traces of it are still visible.

The other document is for the High Seas Fleet Badge.

Unfortunately, the swastika has been eradicated from the eagle at the top of the document. Here the recipient's last name is spelled Gertenstein. (It was spelled Hertenstein on the EKII Document. I'm not sure which is correct. The document lists the Cruisers "Admiral Hipper" and "Lützow" (ex-"Deutschland")

The award was made on February 11, 1942. The document is signed by Otto Schniewind as Admiral and Fleet Chief. The eagle ink stamp is that of the Kriegsmarine Flottenkommando 1.

Hi Tom,

Thanks for posting the documents. I've been waiting to see them ever since the were mentioned in the badges thread. A shame about the de-nazification on the HSF.

Was it common to mention service on multiple ships on HSF citations, or any other KM citations for that matter?

Any other examples out there?
