Graf Spee Foto Album

Hi colt45s,

What's the time period covered by your Graf Spee album? Is it wartime, and if so how close does it go the demise of the Graf Spee?

This is not a wartime album. Impossible. It appears to cover the last cruise off Spain as part of the Neutrality patrol, ending in Sep. 1937.

Quite a few of these exist not only for Graf Spee but the many other German ships involved during the Spanish Civil War. They all seem to have the same basic format. When I say quite a few, that is a relative term of course. They are not dropping out of trees.

Not sure there are any wartime albums like this for the obvious reasons.

Yes, certainly Dion's album covers the same time my father was on the Graf Spee June-Aug, 1937.
But I was asking about colt45s' album from which he posted a few photos of Hitler on board which seems to be from a different time, which I thought was later, closer to the onset of the war.
In his photo here there are 2 Kapitän zur See rank officers, one in front and one in behind but I can't tell who they are -- should help date the photo.

Is it in the Hitler Cigerette album?

It is the cigarette album and still has the original slide in box, best one i had

I think the photos of Hitler on deck were press photos or ships photgrapher etc. and copies were sold to the crew. A KM man that lived here but has passed away had pictures but said he never owned a camera and said there were packets of photos of parades and the ship launchings etc. you could buy from civilian photgraphers and in the ships stores etc.
