    Help identify this Funeral

I recently picked up the photos from the son of a local veteran. Can anyone identify who's funeral this is,all of the bigshots are present. The funeral pillows appear to contain WW1 and Social Welfare type awards, could it be Dr.Todt? THe Honor Guards have Army Standards and the pillow bearers are Knights Cross Bearers. Thanks Jay Parisi

A really nice set of photos. It can't be Todt's funeral as he appears as one of the guests (between Goebbels and Rosenberg). Unless it's his ghost! Seriously though, it's pre-spring 1942 and after the fall of France, so likely 1940 or 1941. And it's a Heer funeral I think.

All boys from WK VII München. In #2 we see von Epp and v Leeb, both MMJO holders. In #4 we see Wachenfeld Stellv VII Korps in the middle and Zenetti on the extreme right. There seem to be two pall bearer generals in #3, or even three. Can't ID them yet

Also Adolf Hünlein on extreme left in #2 and v Epp in #3

            Cheers Elwyn

Could you please post a close up of the two pillows with the awards? Cheers, Torsten.

I think this is the funeral of Hermann Kriebel, one of the key figures in the Beer Hall Putsch, and a fellow inmate of Hitler in Landsberg Prison. Kriebel died in Munich on February 16, 1941, which would explain the winter coats, and the presence of everyone in the Party hierarchy from Hitler on down. When he died he was in the Foreign Service (he was promoted to Ambassador a month before he died), which explains Ribbentrop's presence next to Hitler and Goering, as well as the foreign awards on the pillows.

There's one photo which doesn't appear to be part of this group - Goebbels and Adolf Wagner walking down some stairs (this shot appears to have been taken in warmer weather).

Nice group of photos, a great find!

Was Kriebel a medical doctor or similar? There appear to be a lot of Social Welfare awards on the pillows. Cheers, Torsten.

Kriebel was a professional soldier who got into Right Wing politics after the end of WW1. (Interestingly, he was part of the German military delegation to the Compiegne armistice talks and worked on the terms of the Treaty of Versailles as well.) He was the military leader of the Kampfbund during the 1923 Putsch.

If those are his social welfare awards perhaps he earned them during his Diplomatic career. I didn't see any of his political awards on the pillows, either (GPB, Blood Order, Party long service awards)....

I wonder if we aren't looking at two different events here. Illustrierter Beobachter 9/1941 published a photo of Hitler, Goering, Ribbentrop and the widow which is extremely similar to the shot in Jay's group. The photos of the political leadership corps seem to have been taken in the vicinity of the Feldherrnhalle, whereas the military shots are somewhere else altogether.

This photo was taken at the Haus der Deutschen Kunst in Munich. Some of the other photos were taken in front of the Feldherrnhalle, looking into the Odeonsplatz. The military group photos with the elaborate wreath memorial were taken on Ludwigstrasse, looking toward the Siegestor, at the side of the Haus des Deutschen Rechts.
