I am currently looking into the changes that happened to GrossDeutschland from Infantry Regiment, through Panzer Division, to the end of the war. Currently I am looking at the tactical symbols used on the vehicles as they changed from Infantry Regiment, 17th (Motorcycle) Company to Motorcycle Battalion, then Reconnassaince Battalion until it became the Armoured Reconnassaince Battalion.
I am currently of the impression that 17th (Motorcycle) Company IRGD had the Infantry (MOT) symbol, being a vertical line with two circles, placed either side lower down on the line.
Motorcycle Battalion GD is easily identified as the circle containing a cross, with the little T in the top right quarter.
As for the Reconnassaince Battalion/Armoured Reconnassaince Battalion I am finding conflicting information. Some have advised a rectangle containing a diagonal line, above two circles representing wheels. Others have advised the same, but with one circle and a stretched circle to represent a half track vehicle. I have even been advised that the Armoured Reconnassaince Battalion used the rhomboid used to represent tanks. Of these three options, I have also been advised of the addition of the small flag-like sybol on top of these to show reconnassaince.
I am hoping that by members being kind enough to post any images of GD Kradshutzen vehicles over the years, I may find definate answers to which symbols were used at the various stages during the war.
Any advice gladly recieved, thanks
