    Unknown WL Shoulder Boards

Can anyone help with these shoulder boards?

    An odd combination.

He is a what was known as a Uniformed Civilian. In this case assigned to Airfield Fire Fighting Units.
His rank of Feuerwehrmann was the lowest rank, collar patch and epaulet match.

That said, what is odd is the fact that he is wearing a Luftwaffe eagle,
when he should have been wearing a 'Army style' eagle on the left shoulder.

I know only the basics, maybe one of the 'uniform' gurus will give more clarification.

I did a little more research.

The Luftwaffe's fire fighting branch assigned to air bases consisted of:

        a) Fire Fighting officials of the Luftwaffe

        b) Civilian employees (salaried and hourly)

        c) Luftwaffe personnel (attached as firemen)

The guy in the picture has the insignia on b) above, with the exception of the eagle being on the chest.

Luftwaffe personnel attached as firemen wore their own uniforms but
with a 13cm wide, light blue armband on each upper sleeve. Each armband
was marked with the appropriate garrison headquarters stamp.

There very well could have been variations.
