Somewhere in Russia. From the photo album of SS NCO Walter Scheu who was with SS-Aufklärungs-Abt 5 from the start of Barbarossa until he was commissioned into SS-Fallschirmjäger-Btl 500 in 1944. Something about this picture grabbed my attention. A young officer far from home. Note the hole through the front of his helmet and the grave marker made from the fence posts at the side of the dusty road.
