What type of Plane is this?

We just picked up this photo, my freind thinks it may be a US plane with german markings. I wasn't sure, but in looking at 'normal' 109s, they certainly don't have that scalloped area behind the cockpit.

what are your thoughts?

It almost looks like a P-51B, Jerry, but I am not sure about the round access port on the side.

Possibly an A-36

The aircraft is a French Dewoitine D.520. Probably the best French fighter put into the air during the Battle for France. It continued to be used by the Vichy government and some used as training aircraft by the Germans, hence the German camo and markings.
