Are these men Gebirgsjäger?

Are these men Gebirgsjäger? I am not sure. No armpatches…but are they wearing low boots or just Gebirgs boots?

Hi Erich,

In my opinion these are Jäger-troops for the following reasons:

- The uniforms show M36 and M40 types, no later models.

- There is a mountain cap visible

and


- It seems they don't wear the Wickelgamaschen as used by the Gebirgstruppen but the normal Stoffgamaschen.


- No Edelweiss to be found. At least one of these guys should be proud enough to be a Gebirgsjäger to show at least the arm-badge (instituted May 1939).

- The Jäger oakleaves were instituted October 1942, so this picture was probably taken between 1940 (tunics) and 1942 (absence of the Jäger oakleaves).

I was thinking there were not 'norma' infantry. Jägertruppen does make sense.
