I'd like to show a photo concerning the original question of Germans taking pictures of fallen comrades. Indeed this is very rare.
Here is one of a photo album I am selling now on the estand (http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...ad.php?t=85123)
Indeed I think it was not usual to take pictures of your dead friends, so I think this one is quite rare.

I was going through some photos when I came across this gruesome picture, which I’ve had for a while. I know that this is somewhat macabre but I was wondering what would cause a human being the kind of damage that this poor soul has incurred. I wonder this out loud because I thought it was fire when I got the picture, but I noticed tonight that his clothes are not burned.Attached Files

Seba, death is so often 'glossed over' but in reality it's a horrible degrading of the body if not recovered or discovered within a few days and even that depends on temp. and environment.
Factors are blood, heat and bugs...
The photo you show presents a mummification after the body 'blew up' because of gasses and the eyes, tongue and other soft tissue were consumed by at very least ants.....once the fluid is gone the drying process begins.Regards,
Dave

Fair Comment Mr. Petz..
I suppose the title of the thread could be held in doubt.
I am sure in the 1939 - 45 period, it was a common phrase to
those looking at german KIA. ( The goverment needs us to hate our enemy)
And no doubt I could understand anyone who lived through those
times under german control, would still feel that way.
Whatever the nationality of the dead in the pictures, it shows what
the bombs and bullets are made for, to destroy enough human flesh
of the other side, that they cannot continue to fight.
Anyway, I have some copy pics somewhere of Kia german troops.
Not often seen, but obviously tens of 1000's ignored the instructions
not to take pics of shootings, hangings, and a german dead.
Cheers.
John.

John,
The point is this thread was not intended to cover all nationalities...I see no doubt in the title. The russian dead photo should have been posted in one of the other threads on this forum that cover Russian dead.
I do agree that the official policy of Nazi regime was not always followed...if it had been we would not have the photographic evidence of such tragodies of war. In my opinion photos speak volumes and one of the reasons why I collect them and share them on this forum, Thank you for sharing yours.
