The lower guy is indeed Volkssturm, but what about the top guy?
He has some strange looking collar tabs?

Just found this thread and wanted to say there is such a variety of armbands here in these photos. The most recent picture posted is sad

Why would you say the lower body is VS ??

As far as I can tell there is only 2 different armbands in these pictures...The later type,red/white/black and the 1st type,white with black print...
The picture in the trench with the general I say that the armband re-touched on,computer edited...

Hi PeterPaul,

The lower body clearly wears VS collar tabs on the tunic, but with a Heer breast eagle.
The upper body, most badly burned; I cannot identify the collar tabs at all.
Good to see a broad collection of VS uniform armaments and documents on this thread.
Here in the UK the "Home Guard" never saw actual combat (thank God!) but in Germany, it was totally different.

The Heer eagle on the right hand breast is commen place for VS ,they were supposed to wear it like that...

Do you know the location, where the picture was taken? From the austrian WWI ribbon bar of the Gruppenführer furthest to the left in the picture, it could be somewhere in Austria?!

Coul you maybe post an even bigger scan of this man?
