        German Advertising in America 1930's

The attached ads are from a December 1935 issue of a German travel magazine, published by the "Reich Committee for Tourism" for the American market. The magazine, published in Berlin's Columbus House building, is propaganda, but interesting for its ads, including a full page one for the 1936 Olympics.....Note the ad at the bottom of this piece for a soon to become famous/infamous place called Nordhausen.

If anyone would like to see more of the ads, I am happy to post them.........

Has anyone ever seen a photo with a paper description pasted to the front like this? Vichy?

Did you make a blacklight test ?
If not, I would suggest to do that.

Two things which I don't like on this photo:

The position of the photo on the paper is not straight, the lower edge seems crooked.
The lines on the back are not well defined.

But all that could happen on period original papers too. Especially in the last few years of the war the quality of photopapers differed much.

Maybe the photo was taken in the occupied countries, that could also explain the lack of quality.

It is a nice portrait anyway.

If it does not glow under blacklight I would regard it as a period original.

                                Robert
