I know this is a long shot, but I have tried every other angle I can think of and need your help to try and get a photograph of a man I am researching.
I have a large collection of award certificates to Hauptmann Hubertus Piper, but have no photos of him. He was awarded the Combined Pilot & Observer Badge on 13th August 1940 and the Goblet of Honour on 7th May 1942. He was active in the Battle of Britain, Greece and Crete and was Staffelfuhrer of 8./KG2 when he was killed during a transfer flight from St Andre in France to Schipol in Holland on 25th May 1942. The Do 217 U5+KS Werk nr. 4209 crashed killing all 6 (!) on board.
I have Ulf Balke's two volumes on KG2, which have references but no photos; I have loss reports and personnel records from the Bundesarchiv, but no photos.
Any direct help or ideas on where to obtain photos of this man would be very much appreciated.
