      Road side

      post 187 of this thread.

That photo is a roadside execution. .. Note the lack of general infantry equipment.. no guns.. helmets .. which has been removed before "inline" shooting at the side of the road.

Interesting observation, that I have to agree with. They definitely do not look like KIA's.

          Another ..

Another method used, was to make the soldiers take off their service jackets ... then they were shot as non-military partisians !

Very sobering indeed. Serves to bring back to reality the sometimes "glorious" notion of war. I have a Heer helmet with blood damage to the liner. Needless to say I constantly think of who the owner was and what sort of fate he had. It is my most prized possesion and I always treat it with the respect I owe its original owner.
Thanks for starting this sad but interesting thread.

Very clear scan Karl. If you don't mind what scanner do you use?

I use a CanoScan LiDE 500F. I scan each photo 2400dp, 2048 by 1536 in colour. The default setting for the colour adds a lot of red into the initial scan. I have played with different driver settings etc but found the default works best.

The image is then reduced, sharpened and the colour adjusted before posting, usually in reverse order.

                  Cheers

                        FJ pictures etc..?

Are there any fallschirmjäger or other luftwaffe soldiers pictures in this thread at all, dial up makes it hard for me to go through it all quickly.
I have seen a few in books and off the net that i have copied too,but is this for only privately owned pictures and ones of sites, books on the net are not wanted?.

Here is a quite famous and very impressive photo taken after the jump into southern France on august 15th 1944. This vehicle was ambushed by some American paratroopers. When the car didnt stop, the paratroopers fired at the car with a rifle and submachine gun, and the driver was shot in the head with a rifle grenade that still had the safety pin in it so did not detonate.
This picture looks more like a scene out of a movie then a real picture. It is quite amazing. Blood flows a long way on asphalt, and looks very impressive as well.

this is a similar photo of a couple of dead German soldiers in a car taken in France (Saint-Sauveur-le-Vicomte) 1944 by a U.S soldier, I wonder if it's of the same event

A very good photo as well, though it is not the same event, as yours was taken after the Normandy landing, and mine after the Provence landings.
