    Death Cards....Opinions?

Didn't realize until recently that even these items were reproduced also. I only have this bunch that i bought as a group a while ago (and the only one i will get, since I just wanted them to complete my documents display) . Any opinions on its originality?

This looks like a post WW2 commemoration card. But this is genuine too!

All other could be genuine. But is very difficult to check this only based on pictures. For a secure answer it is necessary to the check the death cards with a lens and a blacklight.

There is another threat about this subject:

      Das Reich,

I believe, with the photos you have provided, that they are all WWII original Death Cards.

I tend to disagree with Guenter (we all have our opinions) as the card he believes is post war has a Swastika in the Iron Cross at the top suggesting that it is a period card rather than a post war original.

Towards the end of next year my book on Death Cards should be out which will assist collectors on this subject and answer the exact question you are asking.

      Kind regards

      Scott

        Hi Scott,

you are right, I've overseen this small detail!

But I'm wondering about the date: 21. März 1945 - 42 days before the end of WW2.

Oberkümmering is near Passau and I've some doubts that the message received with sufficient time before the end of WW2 to print the death cards? In this stage of war the mail and transportation system had already collapsed.

But the swasitka indicates, this death card was printed before the end of WW2.

Those death cards look OK to me. I shouldn't worry too much about the common death cards being reproduced (not saying that someone else out there might be doing that). The reason I say that is the fakers go for the higher value death cards to entice folks and to make a much better profit. Just my two cents worth. Bill

I wouldn't think it likely that the fakers would reproduce common DC's and sell them for 1 Euro...not when they can reproduce DK or RK copies and sell them for 55 to 100 Euros - Bill

I buy my Death Cards from people I have dealt with for 4 - 5 years.
I have never received one that is not original.
I would, however, be cautious of people I do not know who are selling FJ, SS, High Awards or Bismarck / Scharnhorst cards.

                        Hello!

The paper should NOT glow under a black light. But this is a very unreliable evidence because old styled paper is still available.

A better evidence is checking lines, letters and the picture with a lens:

Please check the lines on the death cards regarding the typical dots of laser and ink printers: The border of the lines and letters should NOT looking fryed.

During WW2 the death cards were printed with hot type and all lines and letters have sharp borders!

The grid of the pictures is also different, but unfortunately I cannot explain the details in English words.
Ink printer grid is easy to identify, but laser printer can be difficult.
E.g.: Some elderly Kyocera laser printers can print a grid that looks very similar to the old printing plates
