    Adolf Hitler Oil Painting?

    Hello all,
This oil painting (I think) is really outside of my collecting interest. A WWII veteran called me today and told me he had this painting and wanted to sell it. He did tell me he received it post war from relatives still living in Austria. It is dated and marked Berlin 79-36 EKS is the upper right hand corner. It may have been painted in 1936 or maybe it is a post war painting I'm not sure. However, given the source I took a chance and bought it anyway. Sometimes you win sometimes you loose. Any opinions good or bad would be appreciated. Thanks for your time.

    Regards,
    Steve

      Hi Steve,

In Germany we write the 7 with a line through the diagonal line. What you regard as a seven is indeed a German 1, which makes the date 1936. Looks contemporary to me.
      Cheers, Frank

Any idea of value on this? I would like to sell this with a bunch of other paper items I received such as newspapers, magazines, and a German POW letter. Any help would be great. Thanks for your time. Steve

          Hello Steve!

I bought this picture here in Norway many years ago, and I paid a sum equal to US$200. I think that was a bargain. But as a well known militaria dealer once told me, one should expect that huge party flags/banners would get a higher price than they actually do. I don’t know, but perhaps it is the same with pictures!?: They might not be the same temptation to collectors as medals, badges, uniforms and headgear – for after all, who wants to hang a picture of Hitler on his wall, if it is not a pure display room that is… Just imagine when your comming mother in law shows up (“Do you REALLY think this young man is your type Susie Q. ?”) Her mother: Her father: Your girlfriend: And not to forget, you:

I can unfortunately not give you a good estimate regarding the price. A GAB or PAB is something every collector wants; a painting of Hitler is more of a special interest IMO. So in this case I think it`s more “the buyers market”.

          Good luck and best regards
          Marius

It looks to me like a copy of the poster/painting shown by Marius. Marius' print was based on a painting originally done by Professor Heinrich Knirr, who was a famous portrait artist during the III. Reich period. It looks like it was done by a self-taught painter rather than a trained artist--it's not bad but not professionally done. It could be period or easily post war--is there any slight odor of linseed oil or varnish? It usually takes a few years for the varnish or linseed oil aromas to fade.
A painting by a listed artist would certainly bring a decent price. In the case of this painting, I would say it would bring $75.00 to $125.00 if you can find the right buyer. Actually, Marius' print would sell for more than that!

just found this old thread and thought to revamp it with a question. Any of you guys would like to come up with a suggestion where to find a A4 / A5 size period oil painting of "Him", for a display room? I tried to look around but as said in this thread, they seem not too appealing to collectors maybe? Oh, better if dealer is in Europe .
              Thanks
