Your portrait shows three ribbons on one ribbon bar each ribbon denotes an award. On the KC Cards they are Winterhilfswerk WHW Knights Cross series cards.

Ribbon bar

Hi Bill,

Thanks for the clarification. Looking a bit closer at the photo, I was able to make out the three individual ribbons. I wonder why the other guy had KC cards tied to his button by a string? Kind of odd.

Not a common practice but I've seen quite a few photos with various WHW items pinned to uniforms....usually it means they donated some money to WHW and the item was attached to their uniform temporarily. The string comes attached to KC cards...a variety of WHW items have strings or pins to attach to clothes/buttons
