Hmmm...thats strange. Why would he have the cockade sewn in place instead of the eagle on his M42 cap? Also Mr. Petz...may I ask where you find all of these photographs?! Your collection is amazing!!!!!!

              Hello Brendan,

There is an eagle but you cannot see it because the peak of the cap is folded inwards.

I picked up most of my photo collection over a period of 20 years....16 years of those were in Germany. I bought just about everything I could get my hands on back in the days of the German Mark..not so many people were buying them and there was plenty around and cheap!! Today you could easily spend alot of money on these as they are no longer cheap!! I'm not even close to posting all my portraits...much less my 300 plus photo albums. I also have about 20,000 loose photos in various small to large groupings most of which are in shoe boxes. Would you believe my photo collection is just one part of my collection. Most of my overall Militaria collection is in storage back in the states...so I only brought my photo and book collection with me to Holland. I figure that would give me something to do while I'm here to 2009. Unfortunately the temptation is too great and I've started collecting other things like field equipment, WH Bicycle parts, Uniforms and other odds and ends...I will probably have a whole new collection by the time I leave. Bill

In that case, I hope your collection continues for as long as your interested in it. I wish I could have collected 20 years ago. Things were cheap, and there were more of them - but then again I wasn't even allive then.

                  Brendan,

That was the benefit of being in the Military and stationed overseas. I still haven't lost the interest...it's in the blood!! Thanks - Bill

                              Pictures 330/331

Bill on picture 330,the luftwaffe then was not so uptight on moustache's in there service, not that i have seen to many picture of them.Like most well known can think is adolf galland having one,and read not long ago they where not allowed in the heer, navy seems to have let beards of course, moustache can remember to many on there own.

On picture 331,what unit is he in,not a FJ or just from another luftwaffe branch,LWFD etc...Also on seeing many of these you want to know what happened to them in the war, survived it or not etc...

In ref to #330....In most photos you see no beards or mustaches...the regulations did not forbid them.....it just wasn't a common sight but every once in awhile you will see some soldier or airman sporting a mustache or beard.

In Ref to #331...He is not LWFD but a member of Flak Rgt 303 L29113 Luftgau-Posen..his heimat (Hometown) was in Freiburg.
