    The British offensive.

    November 02, 1942

The CP of the division moved to AP 419. In order to confuse and deceive the enemy, the division carried out simulated attacks in the sectors of Pz Gr Rgt 433 and 382 on the night of November 02 to 03, 1942. The enemy counterattacked in the sector of the 15 Pz and managed to penetrate in the defensive position, the magnitude of the gap has not yet been determined. The previous CP was overwhelmed.

The division supported the distressed neighbor (15 Pz) with artillery fire throughout the day with targets on the northern flank towards the TP 32. Between 18:00 and 19:00 hours the division was ordered to break contact with the enemy. Since the unit no longer has vehicles, trucks of 15 Pz and 21 Pz must be used. Rearguards units under orders of the division commander will remain in the current positions.

    Supercharge, 2nd November.

Kämpfe der 164. le. Afrika Division.

      Hello to all ; more..........................

The 164 Le. ID in El Alamein - Oct and Nov of 1942.

      The British offensive.

      November 03, 1942

At 04:00 hours the transports had not yet arrived, so the Commander of the division postponed the withdrawal for the following night. Meanwhile several Italian battalions fighting mixed with the German troops began their retreat.

The enemy of course took advantage of that weakness but not in the sector of the division. The enemy pressed with tanks and infantry in the sector of the neighboring division (Bologna), threatening the detachment of the I. / Pz GR 433; by means of the concentrated fire of artillery and of the threatened battalion itself, the advance could be contained at nightfall.

The promised vehicles had not yet appeared, so at 17:00 hours the division ordered that the troops begin the withdrawal on foot or motorized, assigning the Runway-Ariete as their first objective. The combat rearguard would remain in front of the enemy until 19:00 hours and then fall off.

The troops of the 164. ID began the movement ordered at 17:00 hours without being detected by the adversary who continued to bombard the abandoned positions until nightfall.

      2nd–4th November.

        Hello ipot,
coming back to your original question, regarding the commanding officers of PGR 125 in 1943, we have the following names. It's a little bit difficult, due to the heavy losses during El Alamain battle, especially for PGR 125 and PGR 382 and later at Tebaga Gap, Tunisia.

        November 7, 1942:
Two battlegroups were formed from troops, which managed to escape from El Alamain front. The main task was to organize the defense at Halfaya Pass and Capuzzo station.
Battlegroup Driver, led by Hauptmann Helmut Driver (coming from III./PGR 382)
Battlegroup Weißhuhn, led by Hauptmann Artur Weißhuhn (4./PGR 433)

        November 23, 1942:
Two Panzergrenadier Regiments are formed from the remaining troops.
PGR 382 consisting of I./PGR 382 (led by Hauptmann Driver) and I./PGR 125 (led by Hauptmann Wilhelm Seemüller ?)
        PGR 433 consisting of I./PGR 433 (Major Jäkel ?) and II./PGR 433 (Major Oskar Meisser ?)

        Around March we have:

PGR 382: Commander Oberstleutnant Wilhelm Hirsch (KIA Tebaga Gap)

        I./382, Commander Hauptmann Helmut Driver
        1./382 Oberleutnant Henrik Overhues
        1./382 Leutnant Kurt Martin
2./382 Oberleutnant Helmuth Berger (Oberleutnant Hans-Georg Fischer ?)
        3./382 Oberleutnant Wagner
3./382 Leutnant Otto Kolb (KIA Tebaga Gap)
        4./382 Oberleutnant Ernst

I./125, Commander Hauptmann Karl Matthes (KIA Tebaga Gap)
        Leutnant Roth
        1./125 Oberleutnant Schlafen
3./125 Oberleutnant Wörner (Oberleutnant Meffert ?)
        4./125 Heinz Schauwecker
        Oberleutnant Gruber

        PGR 433: Commander Oberstleutnant Stiefvater
        Oberarzt Dr. Hans Dünwald
        Dr. Kurt Trept

I./433, Commander Major Jäkel (later Hauptmann Link)
        3./433 Hauptmann Noffke
        Leutnant Däumling
        Leutnant Schimak

        II./433, Commander Major Oskar Meisser
        Oberleutnant Freddy Bergmann
        Leutnant Erwin Leipersberger
        5./433 Oberleutnant Joachim Noack
        7./433 Oberleutnant Walter Behrens
        7./433 Leutnant Wilhelm Korn
        8./433 Leutnant Kurt Geßner
        Oberleutnant Rudert
        Oberleutnant Drechsler

End of March, following the battle of Tebaga Gap, probably PGR 433 was formed with 3 Batallions:
        I./433
        I./382
        I./125
