    Help in research...SS General(?)

I have some information about a direct relative of mine who was a general(?) in the SS. The only info I have is a follows:

    Name: Wilhelm Reck
    Ranks: SS-Sturmfurhrer- 02 Novemeber 1931
    SS-Obersturmbannführer- 09 November 1933
    SS-Standartenführer- 30 January 1934
SS-Brigadefuhrer-(No date noted but he is shown to have held this rank)
    Stationed: F. 6. Sta.
    Party Number: 88632
    SS Number: 1422
    Date of Birth: 18Aug1888

That is all of the information I have. I am interested in finding ANY additional information that is not noted above. I do not have any SS specific books and the internet has not yielded any further information. I am especially interested in seeing a photo and information as to the role he played in the organization as well as any known medals and awards.

Any help that can be given will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance,
    Paul Reck

Sorry, but it appears- from checking my 09.11.1944 SS-Dienstalterliste, that Wilhelm Reck's highest rank was SS-Standartenfuhrer. Information on all 325 SS-Brigadefuhrer appears in Miller/Schulz "The SS-Brigadefuhrer, 1933 - 1945" (a book on CD-Rom- see http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...ad.php?t=94932 for details).

His complete SS-Personalakte can probably be obtained on microfilm from the U.S. National Archives in College Park, MD (price per roll: approx. $34.95); said file might also contain a photo (or photos).

I will see if I can find any additional data on him.

    Best wishes,
    ~ Mike Miller

Are we ever going to see you at Lowell again, Paul? It's NotWinter now and time for us all to hang out in the parking lot!

Reck NEVER advanced beyond Standartenführer-- still holding that rank in November 1944! Born on 19 not 18 March 1888 per SS Seniority Lists.

No awards for WW2 as of XI/44, and only an EK2 from WW1, with status then noted as Lt dR aD.

Mark Yerger's SS leadership book shows him as Commander of

      15th SS Standarte 1.7.32-18.11.33
and a two day overlap (?)
6th SS Standarte 16.11.33-1.1.35-- both in Berlin.

In 1937, 1942, and 1944 on Staff of SS Hauptamt, from the Seniority Lists.

Wow... thank you all for the fast replies. To reach such a rank with NO awards... he must have been a real under-achiever or begged for rank instead of medals!!!

So he was in charge of merely ceremonial units?

From his 1931 service date, he should have been eligable for the Blood Order?

Sorry for the many questions and thanks for the replies thus far!

As far as Lowell... I have been really broke the past few months. No money equates to reducing my driving and having NOTHING to spend on collectables. I have a small debt to a member here on the forum I have yet to pay...

Again, thank you to everyone who has posted thus far and please keep them coming. I will look into the archieve route as well.

        V/r

No, not a 1923 Blood Order (though all those 1936 Austrians who were idiotically given it make a mess of that) but he held the Gold Party Badge--

88,632 was among the numbers given out on 1 May 1928 to members enrolled on that date. So he would have held the 15 and 10 NSDAP long services, things like that not shown in the WW2 Rank Lists.

Don't think of him as an Underachiever... he just peaked soon.

            Thanks for the input Rick

The reason for the confusion on the Brigadefuhrer(as of Nov 1944) rank is an entry on this website:
            http://www.dws.xip.pl/reich/ss/numer2.html

Here is a highlight of the pertinant area:

The date they give on that site is the same as the relevant Dienstalterliste, must be a typo on their part, can't see the SS-personalhauptamt making such a boo boo.

BTW, at that date he was the 6th most senior Standartenführer in the SS.

                Paul~

Just managed to locate everything on Wilhelm Reck, except for the following:

                1) Shoe size
                2) Cat's name
                3) Date of death

#3 probably the most important; with luck, will track that down, too.

Drop me an e-mail at axisbio@yahoo.com and I'll get the data to you.
