A couple of weeks ago I purchased a copy of "Eagle's wings", the English edition of Hajo Herrmann's autobiography.
There are many pics in the book, and I noticed that Herrmann did not wear his Spanienkreuz on his LW uniform. Being a very coveted award, I found that fact strange.
First I thought that perhaps he had bad feelings about his service in Spain, but after reading the corresponding chapter, I noticed that I was wrong. He seems to have enjoyed his time in Spain and, what is more, tried unsuccessfully to come back in a second tour of duty.
I think that Herrmann is still alive, so perhaps somebody connected to LW vets could help me with this subject.
Best regards
