Major Peter.A. Mehrtens

I am looking for information on a Luftwaffe Bomber Pilot who was awarded the Knights Cross by the name of Peter.A.Mehrtens. I am told he is living in my area but I cannot find any reference to him in regards to him being a Knights Cross winner, much less being in the Luftwaffe at all. He supposedly won the oakleaves and Swords as well! All I can think of is that he changed his name when he came to Australia. The only other info I can give is that he joined the Luftwaffe in 1939 and was in the "Condor Legion" and that the award of his Knights Cross was in 1944. Any help would be appreciated on this.
