The photos are nothing exceptionel, but I was just curious to the Batl D1.

In one of the attached photos /backside) there is some text after 1. komp. XXXX, but I cannot decipher it..

    Thanks in advance,
    Hans Kristian

Hmm..I should have kept looking, because I found out:

      Genesenden-Btl. D I
      Aufgestellt 11.11.43 im Wehrkreis I für Befh. der deutschen Truppen in Dänemark;
      1943 und 1944 (als Gren.Btl. D I) in Vordingborg (Gren.Rgt. D 1102).

I never heard of these regiments before, but they make sense.

        Hello !

A very interesting question, pointing to a somehow unique group of units :
Genesenden-Btls. "D" (D for Denmark), were formed in late 1943, one from every Wehrkreis.
(see 1st scan from Tessin, Vol. 14. I couldn't find those in the Lexikon der Wehrmacht.
2nd scan shows the organisation in August 1944.)

The "idea" was obviously, to combine the manpower, available within the huge number of
Genesenden- Kompanien, with occupation/security duties in Denmark.

Usually, this task was given to Ausbildungs-Kp. (training companies) /or field units,
in the process of rest and refit.
To the best of my knowledge, these Genesenden-Btls. "D" were the only case, where
recuperating soldiers were sent outside the Reich for these tasks.
It would be interesting to know, whether there are other examples, besides Denmark ?!

        Best regards,

        Archi

          Hello Archi,

Many thanks for this additional information.!..

I thought I would not be able to find more info, and now all this. I was actually tempted to believe that the "D" was for Dänemark, but thought it to be too easy.

Here a couple of photos, not something extraordinary.

          Thanks again,

          Hans Kristian
