    Kriegsmarine in Afrika

I have read just a little about the 3rd S-boat flotilla operating out of Derna in Cyrenaica in North Africa and then moving to operate out of Ferryville in Tunisia. What other vessels and flotillas operated in this theater?

    Best regards,
    Terrence

    The 7th Flottille

    Hello Terrance,

I've been out of the net for awhile or I would have responded earlier. Like you, I have collected KM.
The 7th Flottilla joined die Afrika Flottille on 7 January 43 with only 7 boats. Both the 3rd and the 7th were withdrawn together to operate in the Italian waters and Adriatic.
One of the 3rd's "Aces" Kapitan z.S.a.D. Albert Mueller just passed on 3 April, hours short of his 93rd birthday. RKT& DKiG for actions in the Med.

A great book, if you read german was written by the 3rd Flottille Chef, Admiral a.D. Friedrich Kemnade. It covers the bith and operations of the 3rd in the Med. Great pictures and attack diagrams.

    Hope this helps,

Thank you for the info!!! I am going to try to pick up a copy of the book you mentioned. Do you have the title of the book by any chance? There is so little written about kriegsmarine work in Africa. Was the 7th flotilla also an S-boat flotilla?

      Best regards,
      Terrence

        Die Afrika Flottille

Der Einsatz der 3.Schnellbootflottille im Zweiten Weltkrieg

Published by Motor Buch Verlag 1978
Author: Friedrich Kemnade (Admiral a.D.) He is still alive

The 7th was also a S-Boat"Flottille" if you count 7 boats as a flottille. Admiral Kemnade also comanded the 15th which was a joint German-Croatian flottille that operated in the Adriatic Sea. I had a Wehrpass of a German assigned to this small flottille, which forced me to hunt it down about 10 years ago. They had really uniquely designed boats that I managed to get a foto of from one of the skippers.

Good luck with finding the book.
