KG-40 is a different unit from Kampfgruppe z.b.V 40. The former (Kampfgeschwader 40) were equipped with the Fw-200 Condor, He-111, He-177 and Ju-88 aircraft while Kampfgruppe 40 was a transport unit equipped with Ju-52's and was disbanded after the Crete invasion due to heavy losses.

I'm not entirely sure it is either, certainly not KG-40 and as the FpNr of Kampfgruppe 7/XVII is for November 1944 it won't be Kampfgruppe z.b.V 40 as that didn't exist after 1941. I think it is a ground based battle group relating to a Luftgau (maybe?)

I have found two mentions of 7/XVII. One is in this passage...
Fl.H.Bereich Dodekanes 06.43-11.07.43 Major Rudolf Roßbacher,
gef. 31.07.43 beim Flgz.Absturz in Maritza
              7/XVII 09.1943 Major Pelzer
ab 18.11.43 Major Melber, Vertreter Oblt. Deublein
Flivo bis 25.08 44 Oblt. Matschulat, ab 25.08.44 Ltn. Haase
Leit-Kdo. Gadura Hptm. Klein, Vertreter ab 01.06.44 Ltn. Luitpold
              Arzt Fl.H. Maritza 08.1943 Ass.Arzt Dr. Igel

              (taken from... http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtop...68720&start=30 )

...and the other refers to Luftwaffenlazarett 7/XVII which was based in Bucharest (Press CTRL & F and then type 7/XVII to locate the mentions)...

EDIT: Just found another mention to Luftwaffenlazarett 7/XVII... http://www.axishistory.com/index.php?id=12135

I've just realised that it is a Heer soldbuch, not Luftwaffe. Talk of KG-40 took me off track for a while. The XVII relates to Wehrkreis XVII... http://www.lexikon-der-wehrmacht.de/...ise/WK17-R.htm
