    Is it Theodor Scherer????????????

    Hi all.

In the very nice section about Cholm there is a picture of Theodor Scherer.

    See http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/campaign_awards/shields/cholm_files/cholmbattle.htm

I have never seen the picture before. All other pictures of Theodor Scherer shows a older man with a beard. The man showed at the site has the Knights Cross. Didn't Scherer get his Knights Cross AFTER Cholm?????

Is it Theodor Scherer, the Cholm commander who poses at the picture????

WANTED: Other picures of "the young" Theodor Scherer

    Hi Jules!

The pic is definately of Theodor Scherer, taken as a Generalmajor. He was awarded the RK on 20.2.1942, and received the Oakleaves on 5.5.1942 for his dfence of Cholm. I suspect that this "younger" pic may have been retouched to add the Oakleaves, the later pics of him with a beard are probably taken after Cholm.

    Regards,

    VJK

              Hello
To Gene : can you gibe me the code which is written on the reverse of your Röhr card ?
              To Jules :
Film Foto Verlag is a publisher of German postcards. This firm was previously called Ross (the original owner). Ross Verlag was well known in the 20s and 30s to produce movie stars studio photo (from both German and Worlwide movie stars).
After the outbreak of the war, Ross was enlisted in the propaganda action by publishing both KC holders postcards (as well as military related postcard) and also continued to produce German and axis movie Stars postcards.
This was a competitor of the Heinrich Hoffmann studio.
About 200 KC holders were photographed by people from Ross/Film Foto Verlag. One of the skillest photographer attached to the studio was the female Tita Binz who produced high standard quality photos (she was also active before the war in photographying movie stars) and she continued her career after the war.
              Hope this helps
              Regards
              Denis

Denis: The code on the reverse in the lower left corner is Nr. 3662

Jules: I'm sorry, I do not know when this shot was taken and I bought it in Germany probably 15 years ago.

                    Hello

                    Thanks Gene for the info.

To Jules : to my knowledge, there is unfortunately no site devoted to this interesting matter. However either send me your email or create a new post related to that point and I will provide you some of them. It is up to you.
You can also do a search trough the whole forum by typing "Film Foto Verlag" and you should have already several nice pics.
                    Regards
                    Denis

                          Thank you David
There are 3 different cards showing Scherer for code R31 :
                          - a beearded Scherer with peaked cap, looking front
                          - a shaved Scherer hatless (yours) shown either as Gen.Major or Gen.Lt.
                          - a bearded Scherer with peaked cap, looking right.

                          Regards
                          Denis
