    Killed in stalingrad.research.

    Hi,

I have a sanke card from a German Prinz(!) that was killed in Stalingrad.

His name was Gabriel Albert Von Thurn und Taxis. He was a German Prince, and sadly died on Stalingrad on December 17th 1942, with only 20 years old.
He was born on October 16th , 1922.

I have already went to the Volksbund German Site, trying to do the research on line, but everything is written in German and I don't understand.

Can you help me? My curiousity is more to know in which unit he fought in Stalingrad.
Is his grave in the Stalingrad/Volgograd new Cemitery?

    Thank you for your help

    Luis

    Luis,

Prinz Gabriel Albert von Thurn und Taxis is burried among the unknown soldiers in the Rossoschka cemetery / Stalingrad.

There is no information on his unit. His rank was "Gefreiter" (private 1st class).

Unusual for someone of that rank to have joined the armed forces as a private.

          here's a little more

            Hi,

            Thank you all.
In fact I thought the same, as normaly the Aristocracy has higher ranks, as Officers...
I can immagine what this kid has suffered....mixed with all other ranks...

Anyway I am still very curious to know in which division he fought...

            cheers

In the text of the sanke card is writte that he was KIA as doing service in a "Reiter Regiment" near Stalingrad. (Cavalier Regiment? - I do not know if this is the right translation)
