Of course, ........ but only after you were able to fill your own collection with such material.

I did have contact with veterans since the 80ties.
From soldiers without any awards up to RK&EL winners.

Some of those men did well after the war, where others did not.
Some were only really something during the war, a real combat soldier liked and looked up to by his comrades, men who were an officer who did earn respect from the men they did command.
And after the war they were nothing compared to those war years.

Yes I did encounter men who were no longer interested in the war years at all, but did also met and had contact with men who were glad that a younger generation did have interest in their past.
For such men a veteran meeting once in a couple of years was again the days of their life.

Wives who did say that their husbands were only interested in the past, and did like all the attention they did get from historians, enthusiasts, photo and signature collectors etc.
A wife who was coming into the room, hearing what her husband was talking about......and saying herself......ooh he is only at that stage of his war time story......so another 2 hours to go for you.

Veterans who didn't want to send you a letter and a signed photo.....but asked you to come to their home to talk face to face with them over their history.

Talking with a veteran, and then the man says, have you also spoken with him, him and him, he knows that and that etc.

Often I was able to help the old veteran with filling the gaps in his war time history with information from KTBs and other sources.

I do know of men who are now in their 90ties and who still love to have all the attention.

Yes I do know that due to their health and age that there are veterans who are no longer able or no longer want to have such contact any more.

And yes there are also collectors who are after signed photos only the make money with them on Ebay, Epier and other auction sites - and that is the bad side of our hobby.

There are a couple of contributors in this thread who I have given the address of a veteran (only of men that I do know of that it isn't a problem for them).
For others I did ask the veteran to sign a photo - and to write the name of the collector on it too, and I did sent that photo to a collector.
I did reproduce the photos myself, did pay for the postage, did put money for the veteran in the same envelope, and when visiting the veteran I did bring a bottle of Jenever and cheese, and flowers and chocolate for the women.

But you can't lump all those vets together as some of them are still interested in contact where others are not.

        Best regards

        Eric-Jan

Well said friend. Unfortunately you are wasting your time to explain something that everyone here understands besides TomB.

Hey Kentucky fried chicken, hiding behind your screen it's easy to pretent the hero. I would like to have you saying that to me face to face, you low life creature.
I have a lot to tell you but you don't worth my precious time. Thus i will only say one quote that comes to mind when i see you posting:

"Never argue with an idiot. They will only bring you down to their level and beat you with experience."

Guys , I am not taking sides on this but please drop the insults . For over 25 years I have attended 1 SS Panzer Korps and Knight Cross Holder reunions in Austria and Germany , so I guess I am a little qualified to speak on the topic of signed photos . Yes , the vets are getting older and sadly fewer , some will reply and others will not . It is pretty late in the day for contacting vets due to their old age and health but if a guy is genuine about wanting a signed photo for his collection then so be it , the worst thing that can happen is you get no reply and if this happens then you must accept that you will not be getting a photo and leave the vet in peace . Also please remember to cover the postage and photo costs for the vets, not all are well to do .
Lets please keep this great topic clean , thanks.

Not at all. Everyone has the right to have his own opinion and i respect that. And you expressed it in a good manner and for the first time.

The problem is when someone is not respecting the opinion of other members and he is trying to enforce his will. If you go back a few pages you will see that the same person is abusing this thread by repeating the same "order" over and over again.
                          Zero tolerance to this behavior

The war in Europe ended with the unconditional surrender of Germany on the 8th May. Does this mean his RK is post war and not really TR?
