I received my signed picture of Gunter Halm who received the RK from FM Erwin Rommel during the Africa campaign. Herr Halm is 91 years old and still in good health, currently residing in Bad Munder (Germany).

I guess the thread with postwar photos of KC holders deleted, but pulling photos for my "Totenkopf" book found this. These are all gone but thought of interest. Photo from late 1950s - early 1960s OdR meeting showing (from left)

Heinz Lammerding (Knight's Cross and German Cross in Gold)
Ernst August Krag (Oakleaves and German Cross in Gold)
Jochen Peiper (Swords and German Cross in Gold)
                      Ernst Barkmann (Knight's Cross)

Mark, do you know why Peiper never bought a 57 set for himself?

What ever happened to his medals?

                        Any info is appreciated

                        Kind regards,

So the bottom line is...nobody really knows what happened to his RK etc. As far as him having a 57 RK, again nobody knows. Tom

There is no substitute for earned medals. According to Peiper himself, he remained a Nazi til the day he died. He certainly had no need to get a 57er RK or any version of his awards in that respect.
