    Hi

    Walther GERHOLD ( Kriegsmarine)

RK : 6.07.1944 is still alive.

Unfortunately, his health is not good and he does not respond to letters.

    Regards

I wrote him earlier this year and his daughter replied, saying the exact same thing.

By the way, can someone give me more details of the action in which Gerhold won his RK? I found nothing of it.

I don't know if I missed or simply wasn't written: did he sunk or damaged the cruiser? What''s the name of that vessel?

I think they're a necessary evil, since they're members of the Association and collaborate with the funds to maintain the reunions. What people must have is good sense.

                Rest in peace, Walter Wolfrum.

I will never forget the good time I had the priviledge to spend in his home.

I wrote him last year in october. I received his answer in december/january. He told me he was very ill and in hospital for a few weeks. Then i get two more letters. The last one was i april this year. I answered him, but no reply till now.
                  I hope he´s doing fine....

Today I received a letter from Mr. Krems. He writes that he is almost blind because of a medical error and can´t write properly.

                        Hi,

I remember Herr Krems telling me about a surgical error in a letter back in 2007 i think. He told me that 2 doctors both made incorrect diagnoses when he was in hospital and he became very ill as a result. He said he would have sued the doctors if he was younger! It just shows you the strong sense of duty and pride the RKT's (and all German veterans I have written too) have that even in such situations, they take the time to reply as best they can!! You can only admire them and hope that you would do the same in their situation...
                        cheers!
                        Thomas
p.s. sorry for the spelling mistakes
