    Question about German POW's?

Did the Allies keep a record of the German POW's they captured? I know probably towards the end of the war, the POW lists got longer and longer, but did they still list them? Preferably, if there is any information about any German POW's caught by the British around the Hamburg area towards the end of the war. If anyone has any information about where they would have been sent or anything would be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance,

    Richard

The U.S. made every German PoW fill out a Fragebogen (questionnaire) and these were retained after the war and became a permanent record. Today, they are either stored in the Provost Marshall's record group at NARA WashDC and/or in the CIC records at Fort Meade, Maryland (U.S. Army Intelligence and Security Command). The International Red Cross in Geneva may also have a record of all PoWs taken by the Allies in their archives, as the Geneva Convention of 1929 required that this information be promptly provided to the IRC.
