Pio.Batl. 97

I have a Wehrpass from a member of this unit attached to the 97 le.Inf.Div., but what makes me wonder is the designation of the two units where he served, first from December 18th, 1.940 till July 12th, 1.943 in the Pi.Radf.Kp./Pi.Batl 97 and from July 13th, 1943 till July 23th, 1.943 (he was severely wounded losing one limb) in 4.(Ukr.) Bau-Kp./Pi.Batl. 97. I have not seen this type of subunits inside a Pionier Batallion, the first unit is also refered in other pages as 3 Kp.

Someone could help me with this units, is the first typical of Light Infantry Division and the second a local recruited one?
