    Panzer-Abwehr-Abteilung 5

    Hello,
In connection with my research of a biography of Meinrad von Lauchert, I am currently looking for info on Panzer-Abwehr-Abteilung 5, Villingen/Schwarzwald.
Lauchert was with the unit before the war until he switched to Panzer-Regiment 35 in 1938. Coincidentally, a book on PAA5 was published during his time there:

    Die Geschichte der Panzerabwehr-Abteilung 5 vom 15. Okt. 1935 bis 31. Dez. 1937. — Villingen 1938. Schwarzwälder Tagblatt.

I have not located a copy of this book and would love to hear from anyone who has a copy or knows where it is archived. Otherwise, I would be interested in any other info (especially officer names, barracks location, and photos) from the unit during the pre-war period.

    Thanks for any help,
    Frederick Clemens

One of their reserve officers was Dr. Hans-Otto Meißner (son of Dr. Otto Meißner, Secretary of State to both Hindenburg and Hitler). He was a Reserve Officer with the unit from 1934-1938 while he was in training to become a diplomat. He went back to Pz. Abt. 5 in 1941 and was wounded - haven't found out how, yet.

Hi, Thanks for your reply. Can you confirm that he was in Panzer-Abwehr-Abteilung 5 and not Panzer-Regiment/Abteilung 5? I'd be surprised that he would be in a Schwarzwald unit (PAA5) versus a Berlin-area unit (PR5).

Yep, you're right. I guess I didn't read your thread very closely the first time through.
