I am trying to identify the owner of a pilot's badge that I've recently purchased. It is inscribed "Uffz. Melzer" and "Plau", and another word or two that are hard to make out. I know the absence of the first name makes this more difficult, but Melzer is somewhat of a unique name that I am hoping to tie in with "Plau". Is Plau a location, an airfield, training base, or hometown?
There is a Plau am See in the Mecklenburg Lakes region but although there is a history of early aviation, I have been unable to tie the area to the Luftwaffe. Any thoughts at all would be appreciated. NARA is a blank. I will be most appreciative if he was an ace with the KC, but any answer will do!
