Waffen SS Units operating near MOSCOW

    Hi all
I'm in the process of purchasing a ground dug Waffen SS belt buckle that was found in the SHAKHOVSKAYA region 154km NW of Moscow. Can anyone tell me what Waffen SS units were fighting in that area and when??
Any info would be most helpful.

1941 Das Reich was under the LVII. Armeekorps from Panzergruppe 4.
SS-Kavallerie was in the Heeresgruppen Reserve. So far east only this from the SS. City of Moskau was getting already prepared.

        Hi,

the French LVF (Infanterie-Regiment 638) was less than 10 km from the Kubinka tank museum, and less than 70 km from the Red Square...
But the first blood of the unit was disastrous, and the unit was sent back to the rear, which maybe saved it from the Soviet counter-offensive.

          Hi,

Ernst60, i can suggest you the reading of the history of the SS-Kavallerie Brigade available here :

          http://etheses.whiterose.ac.uk/2911/1/Dissertation.pdf

You may get infos on the fight locations for late 1941-early 1942.

The brigade was badly beaten up when its units had to fight against real soldiers (and not against civilians, Jews and Soviet lost troops).

          See You

              Hi,

              you're welcome !

(i printed and rode the fully study a few months ago, but i do not remember if the locations of the 1941-1942 fights are clearly given).
