Hello Martin de j ; just in case..........................................

    3. Komp. Panzerjäger Abteilung 31.

In 1942 the 3rd company was handed over to Jäger Battalion 5, but returned to the division in 1943.

The Jäger Battalion 5 was established on July 1, 1942 in Wehrkreis I. The battalion was made up of 4 companies. The battalion was set up as an army force level. On September 27, 1942, the 3rd Company of the Panzerjäger Abteilung 31 was assigned to the battalion as the 5th Panzerjäger Company.

The battalion was deployed at Velikiye Luki. On October 5, 1942, the battalion was placed under the 83rd Infantry Division. The battalion was there to secure the gap between Klein Budnitza and Charitonowo. The battalion thus stood exactly between the 257th Infantry Regiment and the 251st Infantry Regiment. Staff and Panzerjäger Company were stationed in Woltschj Gori. The companies were stationed in Isakowo, Besdelewo, Ushakina and Nekunez. The battalion set up the bases "Linden blossom" near Woltschj Gori, "Wilddieb", "Erlkönig", "Wartburg", "Alibaba" and "Edelweiß" from south to north. The latter was located just south of Goludino on the Velikiye Luki - Newel road. At the end of November 1942, the battalion was deployed on the Velikiye Luki - Newel route.

At the beginning of December 1942, the battalion was deployed together with the Jäger Battalion 3 and the 1st Battalion from the Gebirgsjäger Regiment 138 to relieve Velikije Luki. However, the attack stopped. On December 5, 1942, the battalion was subordinate to the 20th Infantry Division (motorized). On December 19, 1942 the battalion was placed under the Wöhler group. At the beginning of January 1943, the battalion was reinforced by parts of the Panzer-Abteilung 18 and designated as one reinforced combat group Tribukeit (*). At midday on January 9, 1943, this was used to penetrate the Welikije Luki Citadel. The group started shortly before 2 p.m. on both sides of Belododewo. The battalion pushed through to the citadel in one go. However, the enemy closed the MLR behind the combat group and the Wöhler group failed to exploit the battalion's success. The battalion, in turn, failed to connect to the eastern part of the citadel to unite the two parts. The battalion was dissolved in Central Russia at the end of 1943.
