            Not for me....
Backside looks quite convincing but the obverse detail of
the enamel work is just terrible. Unequal borders is the biggest giveaway.
            Not associated with german craftmanship.
Just take a look at the overall appearance of the sword. It looks total crap.
I highlighted a few areas what concerns me. Take a look at confirmed originals and compare details and enamel work.
Like i said before, backside looks quite convincing but don't forget fakers have much experience in tinnies and it's hardware. Even artificial wear and patina is done these days. These staffelabzeichen are a true minefield and very dangerous, also because they fetch much €€.
Is there any provenance on this piece? Is it from a confirmed group?

In attachement some points to consider:
            - with pink i highlight the absolute crap edge of the blade
            - compare the part below the blue lines, uneven borders. A ****ty enamel job.
-with yellow a grip that does not make sense, both sides poorly crafted. The edge on the left side is a total mess.
            - last area is on the right of the green line, i don't know what's the meaning of that. The black line from top to bottom also indicates it's not a vertical match but out of proportion.

Hmmm I can see your point Jelle,

The quality indeed is marginal on the enamel. and they are easy to fake. I have been burned on one last month.

This one has no provenance I know of, for sale on Ebay:

                eBay, explains a lot...
Being burned is never cool Chris, what i can highly recommend is buying a quality professional
magnifying glass. No complicated setup but a small portable glass if you want to go further in these tinnies, because they are a minefield!
It's really required when you start collecting these (and even for decorations in general) On pictures it's hard to judge them and even in hand with the naked eye.
With these professional jeweler glasses a new world goes open.
I bought mine some time ago. Very expensive but well worth the money!!!
It's a pain in the ass to spend that much money on a non collectible but it can save you a lot more.

Excellent tool, I have one a bit cheaper but I might be looking to upgrade, so thanks for the link !

Indeed painfull to spend that much on something, while I could buy a very nice badge for that amount !

Here is an original example that came from a grouping. Wartime example, jet unit he was with after the war, and a post war example.

If I look at this original badge the enamel isn't of high quality either.
A lot of points mentioned by nightstalker on the badge that started the thread are also on the original badge of rfleming.
                      -edge of the blade
                      -uneven borders
-grip, don't know what to make of it.

Or am I seeing it wrong?

I agree with you Rik, these abzeichens are private purchased badges.. No LDO quality control on this type of badges.

Both the confirmed one and the one starting this thread look absolutely similar, including the "flaws" mentioned by Nightstalker.
And also keep in mind, working with enamel is quite difficult to get 100% accurate, even lines with more "complicated" designs like this. I mainly collect WW2 Soviet enameled badges and orders and have come across the difficulties makers face with more complicated designs and tiny spots.

For me, if the confirmed one from rfleming32 is correct than the one from Chris should also be correct since these are identical (beware, I am no expert on these, but do however have a huge collection of enamel badges, medals and orders).
