It has golden crown and pin.

What do you think??

Is it a pilot or observer pilot badge?

Normally the pilot badge has silver pin and crown ...

Hello Gigi,

For me its a pilot. The finish IMO is not original specially the pin is the same gold color. Maybe an attemp to convert this badge into a PO. Being said, very nice hard to find cut out J2 variant.

I agree, definitely refinished. You can see gold paint on the hinge barrel, never a good sign.

Hello Thomas, I red your previous post and I'm asking if you can kindly explain better the word "refinished". I would like to know if you think that the hinge barrel has been resoldered and after the whole area repainted in gold attempting to cover that or if, in your opinion, the whole wreath was painted or treathed in order to make the badge similar to a PO. I examined the badge usig a huge magnification microscope and don't notice any sign of paint/rework on the wreath, especialli where the eagle's wings are riveted, so, in my opinion both eagle and wreath are in original condition and never tampered. The only doubt is about the hinge and the pin, as you already pointed out.
