    GWL PO Badge

    Dear All,

I got this one today. As it was rather expensive I would like to hear your opinions please!

    Best regards,
    Albert

Well its not a P/O is it Albert

Still, looks to be a nice original Observers from GWL. Normal to see these with no black left on the eagle which then takes on a greenish hue.

Very nice. If I was home I´d show you mine. Any chance of a better look at the box.

          Hi Skip,

Ok, let's settle on/or around OB My fault. Please, guys, seriously, please, belive me, by now I know the difference between a PO and OB

On a more serious note. I always wanted one of the GWL ones. Finally found one but rather expensive. But I love those birds in exactly that condition. Still with original finish, and with just enough age to show the nice patina.

What I would like to learn is if there was only one OB variation just like the PB (not talking about zinkers).

          Thanks,
          Al

For the OB buffs: from your experience, what is the ratio between Juncker and GWL Buntmetall OB badges on the market?

              Albert,

as far as I have seen there is only one type of GWL Obs. badge and you now have one.

                Hello Albert,

Very nice L/W Observer Badge. My favorite maker for L/W Flight Badges.

                  Thanks Tom.

Skip, sorry forgot to answer... The box is not a LW box at all, just some case I grabbed to put the badge on.

                    A nice original, Albert..

As to variations, GWL had the same pattern from start to finish.

                    Here's mine for comparison...
If the site will allow... This is the third attempt!!

It is worth noting, that there are 2 variants of finish on the GWL obs badge. One has a fully silvered eagle, the other a blackened eagle. The latter is harder to find in mint condition as the black finish seems to have come off rather easily!

Both have the same design of eagle, wreath, pin, hinge & maker mark.

                        Regards,

                        Neil

Is mine the one with the blackened eagle?

                            Hi Yuri,

From your pic it could be a blackened eagle type, however the best way to confirm it, is to see if there are any traces of black in any details of the eagle, especially in the feathering, maker mark & behind the wreath on the reverse, a pure silvered one does not show any black.

Pics of each type I used to own!!

                            Regards,

                            Neil
