    Luftwaffe Gold Fighter Clasp

    Gentlemen,

One or two of you out there have looked at this one for me already --- and thanks for that --- but I thought I would run this clasp through the Forum for inspection. I believe it to be a fake but have never been comfortable with flight clasps --- the nice bronze ones are easy but golds and silvers are more difficult for me, for some reason.

Have a look at these images and give me your honest opinion.

This was purchased from one of the big dealers some years ago. I had contacted him some months ago about returning it but never received an answer, after many years of doing business there. A lot of time had gone by since I had purchased it, yet a piece is either good forever --- or no good.

But before pursuing it further -- or hammering this one into oblivion -- I wanted final opinions from you guys.

    Best wishes for the Holidays!

I'm not sure about this type with the raised circle so I'll be interested to see what the outcome is.

That mark appeared on another badge that was dissected many years ago...I think it was a first pattern eboat badge. I think the conclusion was "original". On the clasp, I don't see any glaring red flags, although the pin/hinge joint is a bit unusual. What makes you think it is fake? Also noticed that the winged overlay appears a bit more crude than most

                  Andy,

As I said, I really am not comfortable authenticating these gold clasps. If it is real, then of course I will be delighted. My opinion of the dealer will be restored. It's why I put it out here for comment. I also recently "upgraded" and if it is real, it will be offered on the e-Stand.

                  My best,

                  Mike Heuer

                    Hi Mike,

                    That wierd pin rang alarm bells. Took a while to find the thread but go to post #18 in the following;

You can thank (or ?curse?) Frank for his great detective work on these S&Ls.

Evaluate the item, not the story and not the seller's reputation!

If you PM/contact me without the courtesy of using your first name, please don't be offended if I politely ignore you!

So, as I understand it having just read Frank's summary, in regards to this clasp, the base material (zinc) is not post war, yet the pin and cut-outs do represent post-war?

                        Am I reading that correctly?

I dont know to much on this type of badge, but the quality isnt there for me, to crude, even if it was good I would pass on it.
