Originality of Assmann "A - L/64" marked Luftwaffe Badges

Nimmergut's book states that the "A - L/64" marked Assmann badges were put together post-war. I would like to hear some opinions about this from the forum knowledgeable collectors in this area.

    Hi!

When you read this thread (Frank answers and the docs he showed) I´m on the way to believe Mr. Nimmergut.

      Dear Gerd,

I do however want to state that my opinion in that thread is that these badges are LATE war (1945). The documents (magazine clippings) also support that. I have never been of the opinion these badges were assembled POST war. I would have one in my collection any day.
      Cheers, Frank

        Hi Frank!

Yes, I know that! Such badges (the A and L/64 marked ones) were 100% possible in 1945! The best way to recognize that, are the documents you showed us in that thread!

I have no doubts about, that the badge parts are real war time pieces.

Yuri´s question goes in that direction too.....put together post war...not created post war.

I have some doubts, that there was any need for para badges in the last 3 days of the war 1945 (no longer jump training, many got cloth badges before and so on).

Such "Endzeit" badges (or their parts) were in the Assmann stock before 05/09/45 and after that date.....................

        Only a thought, nothing more

I guess this discussion would include the A L/64 FLAK badges? Is there reason to believe these are not made during the war?

No, there is IMHO no reason to believe that! Complete different badge, with a different award criterion.
You got it for some kind of bravery on the front line (shot downs etc.). Paras are brave guys too, but you got the FJ-badge normaly after some training jumps.

As Frank stated, A & L/64 is a correct war time mark for Assmann! Such badges are not fakes!!!

I´m on the way to think about, if para badges with such a mark were ever awarded to paratrooper up to 05/09/45 or maybe only sold postwar to some GI´s as souvenir...

Jörg Nimmergut isn't that the guy famous for drawing up COA's for almost everything. The COA I've seen with his stamp and signature really make me

                Greetings,

Well...........can't say much in the way of a Jörg Nimmergut's opinion on the L/64s being produced post 1945 other than that is one persons opinion. What is exactly is he basing that opinion on ? Personally, I have no doubts on the authenticity of the L/64s and would have one in my collection, but, that is just my opinion.........sorry, no COA to back that up I also have no issues with the L/64 Flaks be original wartime pieces.

                Best regards,
                Joe

                  A-64 Badges

In my years of motel buying, I have found a few original, directly from US veterans, of these Assmann marked A 64 Badges. Most common is the Luftwaffe Paratrooper Badge. While not a great badge, they are totally original an have the Assmann mark and the crude round spots of molding on the reverse wreath. No gold finish was left on the eagle, but it was the typical light grey faded finish that you find when the gold turns.
So be convinced that these were issued and did exist during the war.
